See Alebrije’s alebrije collection. My spirit is guiding me here.

These are our favorite dog-friendly Mexican food trucks in Bend that have enough outdoor space for our best friends.

Are you hitting up your favorite local Mexican eatery today but want to bring your dog? Say no more. It’s Cinco de Mayo and we want to support delicious, authentic, family-owned Mexican eateries that have room for our dogs!

Just a friendly reminder: most ingredients in Mexican food are not good for your dog. So try not to give them any tastings!

Alebrije Oaxaca – 42 NW Hawthorne Ave.

Located at the Bunk + Brew Historic Lucas House, Alebrije is known for their Oaxacan style cuisine. “Alebrije” in Spanish means “spirit guide” and are little bright-colored and hand-painted figurines you can see when you order.

Crystal and Omar are a husband and wife team who have lived in Bend for almost 20 years. All of their food is incredible and made with love – but make sure to try to their mole enchiladas or menudo if you’re there.

We love this place because it has ample space for our dogs – and various comfy seats for everyone that feels like you’re hanging at a friends house. There is also a vegan menu!

Don’t worry, I’m drooling too. Mole Enchiladas con pollo from Alebrije.

Tacos Pihuamo – 950 SE 3rd St.

The flavors will have you coming back every week – or even every day. Located off of 3rd street, this dog-friendly Mexican family-owned establishment is an absolute gem. I spoke with Gustavo and Miguel – the co-owners of Tacos Pihuamo – and they said they use traditional family recipes to inspire their menu.

But, get their famous Birria tacos. Birria is a staple dish of Jalisco region of Mexico. It’s a slow-stewed meat that’s “good with everything,” according to Gustavo.

Just take heed of the busy road that it sits next to when you have your dog.

Sopa – 787 NE Purcell Blvd.

Charlie – an employee at Sopa – said affectionately about the food he serves: “It’s got the love in it” – and after that I was sold.

I also spoke with Chris Jr. – he runs Sopa with his dad – and he told us to get the quesotacos. They come with two handmade, freshly pressed tortillas and are coated in a smoky umami-flavored tomato soup that isn’t too spicy.

Sopa is located at River’s Place – a brewpub that is featured on our list of awesome places to hang out with your dog indoors. Sopa was just voted the best Food Truck in Central Oregon by Bend Bulletin – and I can see why!

Chulitas Co. – 171 E Main Ave, Sisters

Olivia started slinging agua fresca from her pink food cart at Downtown Bend events in the summer of 2021, and has since expanded into a full blown food truck at The Barn in Sisters.

We love this location because of the grassy space for our best friends, and it’s a great excuse to visit Sisters when you’re looking for delicious authentic Mexican comfort food. We love Chulitas because it’s woman-owned and serves modern Mexican street food.
